"tele 121" |
In 1926, ATEA, which until then had been
an independent company, was bought by a British/American
holding company that also owned Automatic Electric of Chicago, IL, USA
and ATM (Automatic Telephone Manufacturing) of Liverpool, UK. This gave ATEA
access tautomatic telephone technology (Strowger, etc.).
In that context, ATEA was asked by UK-based ATM to
make a version of the British telephone "TELE121" for the private market.
This device, which we date around 1928, is one such device made by ATEA.
I once wrote an article about it, recently
translated into English.
We also used this device in a video to playfully describe the operation of an
electromechanical telephone exchange,
based on an old French song,

.
This phone belonged to my late brother Karel, and I cherish it as a witness to our shared interest in telephony history.
