After World War II the industrial use of telephony became popular, especially in small businesses. For this market segment, a so called "keysystem" was developed. A first generation, called the system 600 is manufactured from 1949 up to 1964. With one of the keys at the bottom, one could reach directly one of the internal parties. The big button left and right were used to take an exchange line. There is no central box, the intelligence is in the wiring between the phones.
This particular phone was part of a 626 configuration. System 600 with 2 exchange lines and 6 local lines. THe system 600 has been superseeded by the system 800 after 1964. The sign on the dial "GTE ATEA" tells us that the dial must have been replaced after 1971,when the company name became GTE ATEA.
I obtained this phone from my friend Leon.
