In the beginning of the 1980s ATEA designed on behalf of GTE a credit card verification phone, the first one used by VISA in the US. That phone was called "MICRO-FONE". MICRO-FONE had a built in card reader and modem. It could setup a call to a verification computer of VISA and verify if a card was valid to pay a certain amount. A first phone who could setup a data connection over the telephone network.
Later on several other derived versions of this phone were released such as DATEA2000, Diamond, DATEAPLUS, Cliniphone etc.
I wrote a small article about the MICRO-FONE, see here
This phone was obtained from a collegue.
